ARCH300 - Assignment 3: Pixels

From the assignment sheet: For this assignment, you will be using Photoshop and mixed-media in an attempt to create a re-interpretation of a ‘pixel’ (or an individual element of a larger image). You will use the techniques outlined in today’s lecture(shade, shadow, tone, value and composition). Step 1. You will each be assigned a digital file (.jpeg) by your TA. You are to take the digital file and create a minimum of 10 re-interpretations of the file. Each reproduction of the file, should be the same overall proportion as the original file (70 pixels wide x 668 pixels high). You can increase the size (as in,enlarge the image, print it out, trace or draw over it and scan it back into a digital file) – but each iteration should remain the same proportion. From the assignment sheet: This assignment focuses on creating an abstract two-dimensional composition based on the painting and analysis of the painting (1.A). To create the 2D composition students will have to diagram their ideas on trace. Here, the original subject matter of the painting disappears, and students will have the freedom from representational qualities found in the original art piece. The Kit of Parts project assigned students to create a pavilion using a specified kit of parts. We were allowed to choose one or two of the following themes: ceremony, ritual, contemplation, dialogue, or tension. While this project was similar to the second project from last semester, this assignment had no specified context, materials, or purpose.
